FTTP - IPv6 address assigned but not IPv4

[link to this post]

I recently got connected to Community Fibre FTTP. I would have preferred a static IP address but that is only available on their business packages. So the next best option for me was the 3Gbps option with a dynamic IP address but at least it would not be CGNAT.

A few days ago I lost Internet connectivity and contacted their tech support. The usual power off and power on seemed to fix it. However, had the same issue a day later. Got it all working again but they said an engineer would need to come over to check for any faulty equipment.

They were in today and the device that connects directly to the fibre cable was replaced and it was all working while the engineer was here.

However, less than 15 minutes after they left, it all stopped working again. I connected the ONT directly to my PC with an ethernet cable (as this was one of the troubleshooting options tech support went through with me the first time I called).

And what I found is puzzling me. My PC gets an IPv6 address. But not an IPv4 address. IPv4 is showing as 169.x.x.x.

I can browse to websites which I know have IPv6 support but I can't browse to IPv4 only websites.

I think there is an issue with IPv4 address allocation to me. I've tried to explain this to tech support again, but all I get is that someone will call me back (this seems to be a common response from Community Fibre).

I'm hoping someone on these forums might know how this could be resolved. If there is anyone from Community Fibre on these forums then I would hope that they take note of this issue and that more than a week after my initial call about dropouts the issue is still ongoing.

I will be contacting my previous FTTC provider (IDNet) to get me back on to 80/20 and use that as a backup connection. If IDNet were ever able to provide FTTP to my address (so I suppose that would be if Openreach connected my address) then I would want to get connected to that immediately. Never had such disruption with IDNet FTTC and all queries were sorted out on the first call or first email to them.
