YouFibre Cold Caller

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I am a little confused / Concerned, I just had Cold Caller from YouFibre knocking at my door, He said he was a Project Manager and "YorFibre had won the contract to remove all Copper from your area" and as such my internet would be going slow for the next few weeks, then proceeded to ask me who my ISP was. I declined to answer!

I have a strong suppression this was all a lie trying to sell me their service. I know that they use Netomnia in my area and they are an ISP not "Last mile provider".
Why would:
1) an ISP be removing BTOR Copper?
2) removing Copper make my VDSL go slow, instead of totally stooping it working?
3) If they are "removing copper" why would Open Reach not just move us to their own FTTP?

Highly doubt a Project Manager would be cold calling, they have staff to do that (even if it was them)

I've heard of a few dodgy sales pratices by Youfibre reps now. Constant badgering phone calls and emails, misinformation on the doorstep and this blatantly false pitch.

It's a shame as operationally they're pretty good. Might be worth tweeting their CEO on twitter (https://twitter.com/JeremyChelot) to see if he's happy his company has some obvious spanners working in sales for them?

Sounds like a sales agent gone off-script and making up their own scare stories about PSTN shutdown

No sales person ever knocks on your door or calls your telephone because they want to help you. Everything they say is intended to help them.

The best thing to do is ignore cold callers. If you do accidently open the door to them then politely decline to talk to them as soon they introduce themselves. Same deal with telephone calls. 'No thanks, goodbye'.

'No thanks, goodbye' =) This is my standard response.
I was just taken back by the claim they were going to "remove all the copper in the Area" my response to that was "no you are not" and I closed the door.

I'm sure making up nonsense like that must be illegal, but wanted to check there was no way they we correct.

Did they show an ID badge? Suspect they weren't from YouFibre at all.

On the off chance they were, it's worth reporting it YF so it can be investigated, especially if you got a name of the salesman.

YouFibre are definitely not removing other operator's copper!

Hi @RichTea23,

I'm the Managing Director at YouFibre.

Firstly, I wanted to apologise for the experience you have had. Please rest assured that we don't condone these sales tactics at all. We believe strongly in our product, pricing and service and shouldn't need to tell lies to win new business.

Just for clarity, we have no project managers on our books and we will not be removing any third party copper.

Please could you email [email protected] FAO Ryan Battle with your address details so I can investigate who was working in the area at the time please? If I can find anyone that was misrepresenting the brand, they will be dismissed. Equally, if anyone is pretending to represent the YouFibre brand, this is obviously damaging, so any information you could pass on would be greatly received.

Best regards,
Ryan

I and other members of our (ancient) community group have bought yellow stickers stating NO COLD CALLERS for our front doors. Apparently it is a criminal offence to cold call where the householder has so requested. Works well so far.

Sales people only care about selling whatever gives them a bonus.

They lie, and make up whatever tall tale they can to get you to sign on the dotted line.
