YouFibre WiFi-7 Router compatible extenders/mesh

[link to this post]

Just received my new router from YouFibre on the You1000 plan. Previously I had an Eero and purchased an extender outright as I considered that better value than renting from YouFibre.

An extender for the new router is £8/mth it's YouFibre branded so not as straight forward as with the Eero.

Any suggestions welcome

Do you have to use the new YouFibre router or can you carry on using the Eero?

They definitely don't require you to use their router. They do bog standard DHCP, so you can just plug anything into the ONT and get an address. I would just keep using your Eero's if you're happy with them.

The Eero originally supplied had to be sent back to them. I tried using the Eero I own as an extender but it wouldn't work for some reason. I assumed it was because the new router was WiFi7 and the Eero was Wifi 6+.

That's probably just an Eero limitation then. Wifi7 like all of the Wifi standards is backwards compatible which means it should still be able to mesh with the Wifi6 portion of your Wifi7 access point to extend it.

I'm guessing it's probably designed to only work with Eero equipment. Unless you can buy another Eero (they're on sale for Black Friday right now) then it's probably useless.
