Quickline - does anyone have any epxerience with them

[link to this post]

A charity of which I'm a trustee may soon be offered a FTTP service with Quickline: https://quickline.co.uk/ Currently we are with Zen over Openreach and get about 50Mb/s due to distance from cabinet. As far as we know, OR are unlikely to be providing FTTP to our premises in the near future. We're in rural Lincolnshire.

Our service from Zen is reliable and the relatively slow speed isn't (yet) a problem. Although we don't currently need it, we like having the static IP address that comes as standard with a Zen business service and may wish to use it in future. We're in contract until the end of 2026. We use our own modem/router rather than the Fritzbox.

Does anyone have any experience with Quickline?

They seem to be parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, so they have their own network, prices look good. It depends on if you want to take the chance that they will still be going in a few years. I can understand why a charity is looking at using them because of the price. I doubt you will find many if anyone here who use them
Best bet is to look online for reviews,

I have found one

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/isp/quickline-com...

I realise you are not looking for yourself and the rules changes a bit when it is not for you.

@zyborg47 Thanks for digging out that review.

Quickline's lowest tier pricing for business internet is a little more than we're paying for Zen, though it's been hinted that they will give us a very good deal. Some of their senior people have been in the village, have met our chairman and parish councillors, and have talked about community work that they are thinking of sponsoring in the area.

I've talked to my fellow trustee who's our webmaster and network wizard. It's obvious that we don't do anything until near the end of our Zen contract but we ought to take a good look. Hence my posting here. He and I can both be quite conservative about these things. As another reply said "better the devil you know".

We know Zen are solid and reliable, though obviously at the mercy of Openreach.

There are other reviews, do a search for them, but as i said, quickline is limited in location, so not going to get a load of reviews.

If it was me and just me, then I would go for it. I know there was a time when I would not, but times change. If I had a business I would still go for it, but it is not just you or your business, so everyone or the majority has to agree.
If you can get a good deal, then certainly think about it.

I had the better the devil you know thing in my head for a while before i changed to Zzoomm, plusnet for the most part was reliable and I did not need super duper speed. My view was better the devil you know. But then i realised if you do that with everything, you will never change or do anything.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

At home I've been with Plusnet since 2002, starting with 512kb/s ADSL via higher speed ADSL, FTTC and now 80Mb/s FTTH. I've got a load of referral bonuses so I'd need a very good reason to switch. The main annoyance is the annual price rise.

At my charity we started with Plusnet (surprise!) as our first ISP in 2021. When PN stopped being a business ISP they suggested a move to what seemed like a good deal at BT. We were wary (none of us like BT) and our fears were justified. The actual connection was fine but the billing was FUBAR. I'm the treasurer and it took far too much of my time to get it sorted after a fashion. Almost went to the ombudsman twice. Each time, a senior and helpful person (based at Alexander Bain House in Glasgow) contacted me and did their best to sort things out. These people were actually a pleasure to deal with - they had all the ability and authority to make things happen - but I would rather not have had the problems escalate in the first place.

At the end of our two year contract with BT we breathed a sigh of relief and went that safe pair of hands that is Zen. They weren't the cheapest bu weret only marginally more than that.

This story perhaps explains why we're rather hesitant about making another move. But Quickline.aren't BT, we've actually met one of their directors and they seem to have a social mission as part of their business.

So thanks again for your thoughts, I'm sure they will help us make a decision when our Zen contract is up for renewal in December.
