Plusnet cert expired!

[link to this post]

Looks like Plusnet's SSL certificate for their Portal just expired:

Really inspires confidence in Plusnet doesn't it?

Regards,
Alex.

I received the same message when logging in this morning. Seem to remember this is not the first time there have been problems with their certs.

Idiots aint they...

Same thing happened last year (or the year before)

Certainly not the first time,

You'd have thought they would learn from their mistakes but experience tells me otherwise.

I find it funny how the service status is still green for the portal when there is an obvious problem which affects everyone that uses the portal, so that's 100% of the users are affected... Yet no announcement and the portal is still green..

Strange..

There's an answer to that one Tam. Even though a potential 100% of users are affected, not all 100% of users use the feature/tool/service, so much like the automated fault checker being broken, and simply not being automated at all, it's actually used by less than the certain percentage required for PlusNet to bother making a service status announcement - admittedly that's not the words that PN used to explain why they've not notified customers of the fact the auto fault tool is/was broken, but that's the basic point to what they said.

Interesting however that days later that PlusNet posted a service status saying "71 directories have been lost which we believe relates to around 10 customers' sites"... so only 10 customers were affected there... How many (percentage) users did that affect, with only 10 users sites wiped from the face of the earth?

I'm pretty sure more than 10 customers are affected by problems (fault tool, ticket times, queue times, portal certificate, etc...) but still those issues don't get notified and the Service Status continues on with the red light glowing...

Indeed. hence why i posted how i did..

Makes you realise that PlusNet make up their rules as they go along and say what the customer wants to hear and then do what they want anyway

The free-online one is 2009, so it'd seem they don't run all of them on a yearly basic. F9's one runs out in October of this year.

In reply to:

20/08/2006 @ 12:48 Portal Server Errors - New
We are currently investigating an issue regarding the security certificate on some of our portal servers.

This means customers may receive an error message when browsing to secure sections of our site.

We are working on this at present, and will post a further update shortly.

Kind Regards

It is only affecting 3 out of the 11 portal servers (the other 8 have a correct cert) so will not be affecting everyone.

Well, the service IS still working. AFAIK, the ceritficate has just expired - your data would still be encrypted I believe?

Slightly unprofessional, yes. The dates of expiry should have been noted in any audits which they have done on their systems, so someone should know. But then again, it's a Sunday and I doubt if any of the techies are in to renew the certs.

This happened to us a while back. Can't remember the exact cause, either something had corrupted the certs in the registry or something damaged the physical file on the server's hdd...but it was just "software" glitches, nothing more. Just meant lots of people stayed away from certain sites on our intranet.
