Giganews

[link to this post]

Does anyone else use Giganews?

I am downloading at present yet it dosnt seem to want to go waster than around 20KB/s and it has been like that all morning.

Acording to my PlusNEt page i am not slowed.

Any ideas or tips to glean speed
(aside from changing ISP)

try it on another port number........knowing plusnet though they'll be filtering your news traffic and throttling your connection.

well what news client are you using? You can use ports 119,80 and 23 on giganews.

With Xnews, go to
Special -> Setup Xnews

In the "Servers" tab and in the "Basic" tab of that where you specify your login details and news server, you can specify port number too.

I'd give news leecher a try, theres a free 15 day trial on its website. Superb software it is, shame they chap who's wrote it has ruined it with rediculous subscription charges for using his search engine.

Im pretty sure they rate limit these services by IP address, so no matter what port your be going round the M25 at 5mph.
