If I move from PN, will my problems go away?

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I've always got on well with PN, they've always seemed to provide a good value overall package, but recently I'm having my doubts. There just seems to be loads of confusion with this move to 8Mb and customer service doesn't seem as good as it once was.

The product offering doesn't seem to be as competitive as it was and when I pay for a premium service, I don't expect fare use policies one day and u-turns the next. It's just so unprofessional.

Their portal is also a mess of a million different buttons and links to click on. Why can't it just be a simple cascaded menu on the left hand side?

My service has been problematic ever since I was 'upgraded' to 8Mb and I'm wondering if I change provider whether the same problems would continue? If the problems are with the exchange, will all other ISPs simply have the same issues?

I have always given PN the benefit of the doubt as they seem to have provided a reasonably transparent service, but there's a limit to loyalty when the actual Internet connection product is as flakey as it is.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

Depends really on the reasons for the problem with the up to 8Mbps service. Is it Max or via Tiscali LLU that you have the service.

In theory there are tools available to providers to tweak Max lines, but not all providers appear to offer them for easy use by their support staff.

That's an interesting question. I don't know what service I have.

It's funny how there's good descriptive Max and LLU documents on the PN web site, but nothing in your account details tells you what service you currently have!

Now I've said that, I bet someone points me to somewhere obvious, but for now i have no idea what I have.

Phil

if you look on samknows.com and search for your exchange it will tell you whether your exchange has been LLUed or not.

It was like that when I found it.

Don't think that by itself will help - my exchange is LLUed by 3 different providers, but my connection is still DSLMax.

The usual way that I've heard of is by the Upload sync speed. 400ish and it's Max, 800ish and it's usually LLU (but can be Max Business - but you'd probably know if you're on that)

If the login detailed at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/qanda.asp?faq=troubleshooting#Q132 works then you are NOT on a LLU service.
