Hi guys,
Over the last few months, PN's business decisions have caused widescale debate on this forum about their motives, etc. There has been a wide range of disagreement between "the parties" and this sometimes puts us as AG in a difficult situation acting as "speaker" when Messrs Blair and Cameron (I won't suggest who is who :-p) debate issues and have clashes.
I'd like to remind people of the following:
1. PN may have taken decisions you are not content with. It is your right to have an opinion on these, but please try and avoid bringing up the same thing over and over again. This isn't to say you can't speak of their e-mail problem, package restructuring or "voice of the .." (oh.. sorry.. "communications" :-p) team, but bear in mind context and don't end up in long debates which have already been discussed time and time again.
2. Although there may be situations where front-line staff deserve direct criticism, most of the time the issue is with company policy/procedures and these poor souls that have to sometimes deliver bad news to you aren't able to make exceptions. Please bear this in mind before you attack them directly. If they are rude (that doesn't equate to "not giving me what I want") then fine. Criticising management over policy is fine as they get paid to make the decisions but bear in mind that not every manager gets a personal say over things.. sometimes even they can be overriden. If you're going to make personal references, then make sure they're valid ones needed for the debate, not pot shots. (I would say sarcastic humerous comments aside, but I don't think people can tell the difference, so play safe..)
3. There are groups of people who are very polarised in their views.. and on reading this, each group will think that I'm referring to "the other one".. In fact many people here may not regard themselves as being in such a group, although from an independent perspective they may appear to be. You may fool yourself you're arguing something because you believe in it and not because of the fact your group was being criticised, but think twice before you do that to make sure the discussion is going somewhere.
4. We receive requests from many parties asking us to "moderate" one user or another from all sides of the equation. Your best moderation tool is to ignore someone.. It takes two to tango, etc.. We will continue to frequent this forum but please realise that PlusNet as a company has received more time than any other ISP listed on the site, something which is far more distorted if you consider their relative user numbers against larger companies. We can spend a bit more time now and again on this, but we can't start putting in disproportionate resources long term because the decisions and people involved are ones that cause controversy.
Most posters on this forum have contributed to the problems at one stage or another so please don't regard the above as a "it's not targetted at me" thing. It *is* targetted at *you*.
We want to continue providing an independent forum for everyone who wants to discuss an ISP to do so. We don't subscribe to the philosophy that customers are the only ones entitled to comment/criticise. If you subscribe to this school of thought, this forum is not for you. Similarly, please remember this is not a "XXXX sucks" site.. there are plenty of those around.. if all you want to do is rant and rave, feel free to find an alternative venue.
Thank you for your time and patience reading this.
Sebastien
