Another MaxDSl Question

[link to this post]

Hi Guys
I've been maxed for about a month, an need some advice. I live about 400 metres from the exchange and have a sync speeds as below :-
DownStream Connection Speed 7616 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

problem is I never see downloads speeds over 3Mb and these speed seem the vary greatly through the day anywhere from .5Mb up.

I have tried connecting to the 'master' socket with no effect.

I have had Plusnet do their line test and the say it is within the expected range for the connection.

I'm getting a little annoyed as I was 'upgraded' from a rock solid 2Meg connection.

Has anyone got any suggestions ??? please...

Connection details below

latest spped test

It is all probably down to contention.
The question is - where.
Try the BT speedtest which keeps clear of the PlusNet part. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/btwspeedtest.htm
If you don't get any better results it is down to contention at your local exchange
One thing you haven't given is your stable rate - effectively the speed limit set on your line. What does this give http://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate

Just done BT speed test

The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.bt.com for user XXXXXXX and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of

5084 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

Just after (or just before) you did the BT speedtest, did you run a speedtest when connected to Plusnet? If not then you may still have exchange contention. It does look like there maybe some contention in your exchange when you ran that test as well, since you say your sync was nearer 7MB, you should of been getting around 6000Kbps.

Hi

Thought I would post an update, in the last day or so my max connection has become a lot more stable and consistent, 6Meg + at times never below 3.5, so i'm happy.

not sure what has changed (nothing at my end) so I guessing there was an issue with the line or exchange even though the line test said there was not...

Cheers
