LLU/Draytek2800/Cisco test router = disconnects

[link to this post]

Hi

Just to save anyone scratching their heads or starting a game of ticket tennis with PlusNet support:-

PlusNet are currently using a Cisco router in addition to their Juniper to help troubleshoot the ongoing random disconnections for LLU users. It is down to chance if when you connect you get this Cisco router or the usual Juniper.

There appears to be a compatibility problem with Draytek 2800 routers (and maybe others with similar chipsets) where by the Draytek and Cisco PlusNet are using stop talking to one another every 7 minute 30 seconds or there abouts. All internet traffic stops with the Draytek dropping the PPP connection after 2 minutes of no traffic. It will immediately reconnect, only to disconnect again some 8 minutes later.

It is possible that the router will reconnect to to the Juniper in which case the cycle will be broken, although you may still get disconnections due to the ongoing issue the Cisco is there to help resolve.

What led to the discovery of this problem may be found here: http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,3347.0.html

Hi

It's the latest firmware. I have reported this to Draytek who were extremely quick at coming back, however they wanted various logs which I couldn't supply as the Cisco router is no longer in use for me to replicate and capture the logs.

However with some information supplied from another user having the problem, Draytek made a recommendation of a setting to change via telnet, the details can be found in the thread here: http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,3347.75.html
