Moving house - keep current contract ?

[link to this post]

I'm hoping to move house on Friday and am going to move my PlusNet broadband account to my new address, using their online form : https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=adsl_reprovision and I'm going to go for the deferred activation cost option.

I've been with PlusNet for years now, so I'm on a monthly contract.

My question is - if I move my current account to my new address, will I still be on my monthly contract ?

I don't want to inadvertently enter into a minimum 12 month contract !

Does anyone know ?

I think that you might find that you may be signing up for a 5 year contract because of the deferred charges, i.e. something about you stay, we pay I think.

It's probably best to contact the Plus.net CS direct and ask them to clarify this.

Your contract will remain exactly as it is now, as if you had not moved. The only difference, as you are aware, is if you leave within 5 years you will have to pay the pro-rata deferred activation fee back before you can leave.

Ages ago I read somewhere that there is also some sort of admin fee applicable too upon cancellation of the "you stay, we pay" though I'm not 100% sure that it would apply in your case.

Just out of curiousity, was there any particular reason as to why you didn't start afresh with another ISP in your new house?

The ISPs I would consider (eg. Zen) all charge for activation so I thought I'd move my PlusNet account and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, then I'll migrate to another ISP for free and be no worse off, even if I have to pay back the

If you do decide to stay with Plus.net just make sure that you opt out of LLU as it will be a bit of a nightmare if you want to migrate out at a later stage.

Had you migrated from PN to Zen and then moved house you could have had the line activated for free at the new house and with no tie-ins. You would have stayed on the monthly contract too. It is a bit late to tell you about it now but for future reference I thought I would post the details here:

I think the opt out is for your account and not your home address so to speak..
