Re: Moving house - not knowing the new phone no ?

[re: caesar_salad] [link to this post]

I've just realised that PlusNet need the phone number for my new house before I can switch my ADSL over to the new address.

I don't know it of course and probably won't until AFTER I move house.

What are my options ?

Can you not ring BT to get the number? Is it going to be a new install or is it being reactivated on an existing line? I wouldn't think it will be a problem.

Can't you keep your old number? or do you want a new one?

mike, did you ask for a "dead" number? (one that hasn't been issued in 6 months)

When I moved they gave me the previous owners number!!!
So not only getting mail for him, I was getting phone calls too.

I rang BT was told that gave me that number as I never requested a "dead" number.
FFS as if i wanted other people calls ,I was getting 2 calls a day for them (they must have gave the number to 100's of companies).

So I had to get the number changed, and file the number with TPS, and bingo, no more calls.

It can still happen. My son had a phone installed in a flat that had been empty for months, and keeps getting calls for a plumber.

First part of his answer-phone message is "this is not the number for MR+++++++ the plumber. Suspect the number was in a darned Yellow Pages somewhere, uggh!

I assume everyone wants a "dead" number but if you don't know to ask they can get rid of the "live" ones, and are happy to do so I bet.

Just a tad sad..a wee bit old...
