MaxDSL Frustration

[link to this post]

I had a ticket answered by Plusnet CS yesterday - have been on MaxDSL for approx 3 weeks now and have seen no increase in speed. I live within 1km of the exchange, my router synchs consistently at 8128/448 and my stable rate is set at 8000 yet my download speed has never been above 1890kbps.

I have been told by CS that it's down to the BRAS profile on my line and that there's nothing more that PN can do. They suggested that I disconnect the router from the telephone line 3 times a day and then I will gradually see an increase in speed.

My questions - why, with a seemingly faultless connection would the BRAS profile be set at that level and can I really expect to see an increase in speed by disconnecting the phone line 3 times a day? Do they actually mean disconnect the phone line or do they mean reboot the router?

Ask support to perform a full whoosh test on the line which will show the Bras profile setting.

In any case what CS are saying makes no sense as your stable rate is already set to 8000 which is supposed to be set from the last Bras profile PN have received from BT.

What speeds do you get via the BT Speed tester. Try at different times of the day to see if local exchange contension may be the cause.

If the BT speedtest shows a higher speed than you are getting then you have to keep hounding PN to report a speed fault with BT.

Thanks for the advice Peter - I have just tried the BT Speedtest following those instructions but only received an error. I'll try again later in the day. In the meantime I'll request a whoosh test as advised.

Zen know the answer

[re: cadey] [link to this post]

A friend on Plusnet had this same problem during August. After 4 weeks of trying to get Plusnet to take any action, he migrated to Zen. Then Zen reported the fault to BT and it got fixed last week when his throughput speed gradually rose to 6100 over 24 hours.

Admittedly its a drastic course of action but Plusnet don't seem to know how to fix this type of problem.

It maybe more the truth that Plusnet have that many outstanding faults with Maxdsl and LLU that they can not cope with the load.

Just reading their own official support forums proves this with the amount of customers asking for help.

Whoosh test revealed BRAS profile of 8128 and they asked me to report a fault on the fault checker. They accept that there may be a problem with equipment at the exchange and may need to raise a fault. Fault checker results::

"The results of our tests show no fault with your broadband connection. Completed speed tests show that your connection speed is: none found

According to BT, this speed is within the limits of acceptable performance for broadband service."

none found = acceptable ... OK!!

Managed to complete the BT SpeedTest - 1722 kbps.

Keep pushing for PN to raise a speed fault with BT.
