plusnet > orange

[link to this post]

Just transferred from plusnet to orange this morning.

Interesting observations:

1. I have been downgraded from 8mbit to 2mbit (even though my exchange is LLU)
2. Web surfing at least seems faster on orange than plusnet (I was on a 20:1) connection
3. As I have a orange contract, my monthly ISP bill just dropped from

Ive migrated one of our home connections to Orange ( slowly getting rid of plusnet yay )

Speed Wise I have had no complaints and we got left on up to 8meg. Did you regrade from 20:1 to 50:1 or from 50:1 to 20:1?

If so it might have been they regraded you from different speeds because of it.

I'm not with Orange, just done a bit of research as
I moved from PN last month (I chose AOL)

I would ask in the Orange forum, someone might
have got a good deal there.

Well theres nothing excessive about our home usage I download maybe the odd thing off BT every now and again I wish I had the time to sit there and wait for hundreds of gbs of stuff to download ( thats what lan parties are for )

The connection I was referring to is not mine I just manage it but the land line owner I beleave is getting the orange "Unlimited" package not sure how mucgh he is paying though I think its peanuts though due to having a

How PN is today, I can't see why anyone would want to sign
up with them. It seem to be problem after problem.
Also many ISP after a year you can walk away, with no
charge as your connect has been paid for. But with PN
it's five years!
Mind you, how PN is now, would be surprised if there is
a PN in 5 years.

You could always the connection charge pay up front and not have any tie in.

yes, and if by some chance you are still with PN
in 5 years, it would have cost you 42, and I doubt they
would refund that.

It's just a pity PN takes 5 years, when others
take a year, and some give a wireless router in that year.

Looks a bit of a no brainer really.

Can see no problems with orange so far.
Speeds slighly slower in the evenings. No disconnections as of yet (might be a different story when 'upgraded' to 8 mbit).

Are you saying if you go with Orange
BB that your mobile is a 0845?

No they give you a router which has voip. I must admit I havent used it but im guessing hes referring to the number they use for people to call you on your voip line.

Yes the VOIP number is an 0845 number
Which (unless you name it as a 'magic' number) does not come out of orange inclusive minutes and is chargable at all times.
Pity.
