Fax-2-Email

[link to this post]

I don't remember it being announced but when your Fax-2-Email number hasn't been used for 90 days you now get 48 hours notice before it is cancelled instead of the previous notice that it has been cancelled. I've no idea when this change was made but it was a surprise when I got the warning email. Well done PN.

This is great news if true. I and many others have asked for this. I hope PlusNet will confirm.

Just a sad footnote...if it is true, yet again a marketing failure by PlusNet. why didn't they publicise this?

Its true alright. Here is the email I got...edited to remove my personal info only

In reply to:

* Advance notice regarding your Fax-2-Email number *

Your username: xxxxxxx

Dear xxxxxx,

We would like to inform you that according to our records, the Fax-2-Email number we provide to you as part of your account has not been used during the last 3 months.

As per the terms of this service, if you don't use your Fax-2-Email number for more than 3 months, we will recall the number for the use of other customers. Further details of this policy can be found here:- http://www.force9.net/support/email/email_tools/fax2email.shtml

You can reactivate the service again at any time, and receive a new number, if and when you require it, using the Fax-2-Email administration tool at:- https://portal.force9.net/my.html?action=myemail

You can prevent your number from being deactivated by regularly receiving faxes to your Fax-2-Email number. If you wish to keep your current number, please arrange to have a fax sent to your number within the next 48 hours.

Thank-you for your continued custom.

It even mentions how to stop it being deactivated this time as well which really surprised me.

That probably says it all.

Plus.net don't really want people to leave and it may be the case that the aggro of having a customer to call CSC up every time to have your Fax2email account reactivated was a hassle that they can do without.

At least they have advised people now and hopefully problems related to the 90 day non use deactivations can be neatly sidestepped.

Sometimes things are implemented before the PR people have had time to set up and send out a press release or this just may be a simple case of the automated jumping the gun.

I guess that we'll never truly know why..

Perhaps an breif note in the next spammy plusnet newsletter.

"we have listen to our customers and have changed the following"
1) Buisness contract rolling monthly after 12 months
2) Better spam filtering
3) Fax2email number reminder.

etc.etc.

I don't see why that couldn't be done as it would be a positive message being put across which does benefit the customer.

It also means that Plus.net *do* move with the times though..

Result!
