Performance and disconnection

[link to this post]

Help !!

I have been on PlusNet for some months now.
Before I was 1M - all was great.
When I was upgraded to 8M, I got more speed but less reliability.
Things seem to have got better, but I am still getting a few disconnections in the daytime and many more in the evening.
1. Has anyone got any suggestions/fixes ?
2. On some attachements - when I download a file I get an IP address and the file takes along time to download - any ideas ?

Any feedback with clear instructions would be most welcome.

Thanks

- when were you "maxed"?

- what hardware are you using - modem? router?

- what speed do BT advise at See how fast you can go?
(enter your phone number at bottom right of page)

- how far are you from your exchange? - try the SamKnows Availability checker ... click the "Locality" button when your exchange "map" displays.

I believe I was maxed about 4-5 months ago
I made those checks...
Check availability - results

For Telephone Number x on Exchange y

Our initial test on your phone line indicates that you should be able to have BT Broadband with a likely maximum speed of up to 6.5Mb (Megabits per second).

and the other one

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.

I am using Zyxel modem

On the SamKnows link I gave above:
- enter your phone no. & your postcode, then click the "Check!" button
- then click the "Locality" link (bottom left), beside the map, of the new page

It then tells you how far you are, in a straight line, from your exchange.

However, the 6.5Mb report from BT suggests you should get a good DslMax connection.

Have you checked your internal wiring and made sure there are no unfiltered phones or extensions from your master socket?

Don't know anything about your Zyxel I'm afraid. Can you get any connection stats from it?

Which Zyxel?

The 660R has a rebooting bug which causes to to reboot on a dropping sync.

Also, Zyxel's are very sensitive to lightning. I've found that any lightning in around a 50 mile radius causes mine to start playing up - storms overhead and I don't even bother trying.
