Got to hand it to PN / Tiscali .. they sure know the best way to upset paying customers.

Subject: LLU Connectivity - NEW

We have recently become aware of an incident that caused all customers connected to our LLU platfrom to be disconnected.

Analysis of the platform suggests that customers will be able to reconnect immediately however there may be short term problems trying to access the network due to the number of customers trying to reconnect at the same time.

We suggest that customers having difficulty reconnecting to the Internet power down their modem or router for a period of 30-60 minutes before attempting to re-establish a connection.

Our network engineers are currently working to identify the cause of this connection drop and we will provide further details as they are made available.

Kind Regards,

Bob Pullen

I can't see the problem. Networks do sometimes go down as you know. Some people over at Zen had a similar issue with BT only two days ago.

PlusNet dropped 12000 customer's out of perhaps 160,000 in total. It's no different to times when a BT central pipe has to be restarted or taken of line so dumping the tens of thousands of customer's on it to be rebalanced elsewhere, that happened to me enough times on BTw. No ADSL connection is up 100% of the time.

Yes criticise PlusNet where it's due, I know I do, but don't make things appear worse than they are in reality please.

It highlights the lack of resillient network though on the Tiscali connection.

If a BT pipe goes down, people can (usually) cram on to the other ones. Can the same happen if PlusNet's Tiscali link(s) (I believe it's just one?) goes down for any lengthy period of time? Or are they stuck offline until the service can be restored?

Are you saying PN has 160,000 customers on LLU?

No out of their total connected users. My point was that PlusNet did not lose all it's customers. Having customers connecting via different methods provides some protection in case of a supplier service outage as not all customers will be affected. There are too many people (even people that aren't customer's of PlusNet anymore!) who find every and any opportunity to bad mouth them around here. Sometimes (ok many times) it's justified yes, but at times it isn't.

I agree and have brought this up before in PUG and we know the problems LLU customer's (me included) have had in the last couple of months.

However we know there was a major service outage at Tiscali now, which caused LLU customer's to lose their PPP connection, however mine according to the logs was back up seconds later. Was that evidence of a resilient system that most were back on line within in minutes (I bet only a tiny percentage of LLU customers even noticed the service outage) or evidence of a non-resilient system? To some in these forums we know the answer they will give, i.e. where PlusNet is concern the cup is ALWAYS half empty.
