DNS issues?

For the last few days I've been having intermittent problems accessing some sites, including BBC and Google. Going via the IP address for the BBC today worked fine though, when www.bbc.co.uk didn't - is this a common problem, or more likely to be an issue with my PC?

Same here intermittently, also with www.avforums.com and windows live search

Use www.opendns.com And change your settings accordingly, Haven't had DNS issues in well over a month now, and it's faster than Plusnet's!

Whats the catch?? why provide free dns servers??

When a server cannot be resolved, they take you to a page with search results. Some of these being sponsored.

You can turn this off though, so it's just free dns with no strings.

I have just found that 212.159.6.10 is failing, unable to surf but changed it to 212.159.6.9 and its all fine. I have 212.159.13.50 as my 2nd DNS. Is this all correct?

Another Q, in my DHCP, should I set the DNS to the router (which does work), or should I hand out the above DNS servers under DHCP??????

Plusnet is taking the [censored] with their DNS servers... always having problems!

Even that they have 4 new servers for DNS, it still doesnt fix it. :/

Don't change the Windows settings in the DHCP settings to use the DNS servers, just allow it all to be automatic with the Router.. Any DNS settings should be changed within the router itself.

Hi, the router asks me for the DNS settings. If I don't specify one it looks like it won't hand out a DNS IP. Its a Draytek 2800G.

The router is using the .10 DNS, the one that was playing up.

Just relised what you mean't. I have one PC which is a static for Firewire routing. All other PCs are DHCP clients fully.

My Draytek has .9 and the .13 DNS server under DHCP. The router itself is looking to the .10. The static'ed PC is looking to the router for DNS. All seems to work unless there is a better way???? (Prolly be on Zen soon anyway)

If you want to use the OpenDNS servers, then the internal DNS is not going to matter since the DHCP takes care of anything, so you it might be best to leave the computer settings as they are :P

On the router, the normal setting for DNS settings is set to automatic, meaning it picks up that data from the ISP and the ISP assign the DNS server. All you need to do is manually override it and add the OpenDNS server addresses in and you are on your way!

Thats all the configuration you need to do. I don't have any experience with Draytek, so I hope you find your way round!
