TV on the PC?

[link to this post]

I get the ZDNet downloads info emails and the recent one mentioned Satellite TV on PC here http://www.satellitetvtopc.com/?S=A now I am not normally one for the hype of such things but it certainly sounds worth trying out.

Has anyone tried this and indeed what sort of hit does it give the badwidth monthly usage limits, to date my usage has been in the fairly modest catagory.

TIA for any insight

Decent quality video (MP4) is around .5 GB / hour, less than that and it's well below VHS quality. So if you set a limit of 4GB / month you can get up to 8 hours / month if you use no other bandwidth. I would be very wary of this product myself.

First I'm surprised at ZDnet mentioning www.satellitetvtopc.com (without also giving some links to other services).

Second, a friend on Telewest asked (having seen some link off a marketing message or site, possibly associated with VirginMedia, possibly not {before anyone complains!}) about a similar service at www.DigitalTVonPC.com) which also has a $49.95 fee.

I suggested he check http://wwitv.com/portal.htm as an alternative (free list of links) site. Also came across some shareware at about $30 (I saw it on a commission links site called ivertech.com but it seems to be from onlineTVplayer.com {they have lists of channels at http://www.onlinetvplayer.com/channels/ but the links are to promote the product, of course... so just a checklist of channels really })
