BBYW vs Premier Expected Speeds

[link to this post]

I see the expected speeds of the Premier products have been added so we can now do a more accurate comparison between BBYW.
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_premier1.shtml
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_premier2.shtml
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_premier3.shtml

It looks like all 3 versions of Premier have about the same expected speeds as BBYW option 2 for 14.99.
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/quality_broadband/speed.shtml#Option2speeds

This seems a rather deliberate ploy to encourage people to switch to BBYW. Is this a sign of things to come for those of us who want to stay on Premier? Are PlusNet going to make it less and less attractive without actually removing it altogether so that we are left with no real choice but to switch to BBYW?

Thanks for that...

Ill have a look. It would be EXTERMELY disappointing if that was the case as I would have expected to receive in the region of option 3 service based on cost etc......

Perhaps PN would care to comment on this.

Unfortunately it's not only speed you have to consider. See this link giving priorities for each Option.

Nice and easy to follow just like the old days?

This is an issue that has been going on for a while. The Premier packages have been slowly changed over time and now these new restrictions have appeared. Option 1 alone claimed the first 13GB at line speeds but the new speed throttling introduced for ftp and then P2P/Usenet went against that contracted commitment and now there are even more restrictions including http.

I'm very much in agreement with your stance that this looks like an attempt to encourage people to move to the new packages without acknowledging the fact that both Premier and BB+ have been fundamentally changed to the detriment of the customer and without notice.

Errrm, that comparison doesn't look right to me :?

I reckon there's been a bit of a mishap somewhere along the line. We're rolling back those pages now as they are clearly wrong. They will be re-written for early next week. That is of course unless we can get the changes out later on today (which is unlikely TBH).

There's definitely no deliberate intention to force migration onto the new products. We've always taken the stance that you can remain on your existing offering and certainly without us doing anything to detriment the service for you.

If you do not consider introducing a cap, traffic shaping protocols and rate limiting them detrimental, what would you consider to be detrimental?

I first became aware of those figures last weekend.. and Im behind you all the way on this one. Since the 21st Ive been trying to hammer this point home via PUG to PlusNet who at first would appear to have failed to notice the discrepancy.

To make things easier for customers Ive coded a small traffic shaping comparison tool which shows the differences in shaping on the different products... which is to replace the SUP tool that I coded last year.

Please note that the new tool on my site is slightly wrong, because by Wednesday evening we'd made some headway and they had agreed to drop the after midnight p2p shaping on Premier. **

Ive personally been very busy over the past week and just about every spare min Ive had has been fighting this one.. which ironically is why I havent even had chance to upgrade the code in the tool on my own site yet.**
PUG will also be putting a copy up on their site, but we are awaiting further details and clarification before release.

I can confirm that it had actually been agreed by Neil_A to be reviewed on Monday before your posts hit these forums.

Plusnet were rate limiting access to sites such as Youtube and rate limiting gaming protocols too, did they stop that?

yep afaik they did that a while ago.

Ive not seen any evidence of it for a while - although I'll be honest because things have been so hectic here I havent been able to monitor things as closely as I used to do.
Maybe some-one else would like to confirm that they also havent seen any evidence.

afaik the only download sites that are being shaped are the ones listed in the 2nd table on this page http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/plusnet_shaping.htm
