Usenet on PN ?

[link to this post]

My Dad is on PN (i'm ex-PN myself) and would like to grab the odd file from usenet. When I was on PN over a year ago it had full usenet access/coverage inc binaries and all accounts could access the PN servers.

Can someone confirm the current situation (I wonder if it all got removed as part of the squeeze more customers in and give them less!!!) on this?

Also would be great if you could confirm the setup (ie server name, presumably port 119 and username/pw as well) so I can set up a client for him here and then just copy the setup onto a CD and post to him.

Thanks guys

There are no binaries on the PN feed and haven't been for quite a while now. It is possible to access binaries from other servers, although the speeds are reduced during the busier periods of the day.

If he just wants a small amount of data then Yottanews - www.yottanews.com isn't bad. They offer up to 1GB per month for free rated
limited to a single thread at 16KB/s. As I say it's fine for a small files, I'm too cheap to pay for a usenet account and it does for me.
