Disconnecting Every Minute!!!! Please Help!!!!

[link to this post]

My connection with Metronet/Plusnet keeps losing its connection literally every minute since last night, as far as I can tell the phone line seems ok. Is there anyway I can check/resolve this issue? I work from home and need a constant connection so it's driving me mad! Any help much appreciated.

I've been with Metronet for over 2 years and I've never encountered this problem before, I've literally not been connected for more than 1 minute at a time since about 8pm last night. Is it possible to get BT to check the line?

I've tried turning on and off my Netgear router and the pc, deleting old files etc but whatever I do the dreaded orange light on the router keeps flashing every couple of minutes! It has taken me ages to send this posting!

Many thanks in advance

Can you posts the line stats from the router. When you say the dreaded orange light, do you mean the DSL Sync light, that is the connection between your router and the exchange?.

Are there any logs or connection information (line stats such as attenuation, noise, connection speeds, etc) you can give us from your router?

Has there been anything that may have had an impact on the line (the recent heavy rain could have an effect for example) or any other changes made to the setup (pc/router) or wiring recently?

It's probably worth following the steps and raising a fault as outlined here so that PlusNet are aware of the problem, hopefully advise you on what to do and if necessary get BT to perform line checks/call out an engineer. If you can't get to that page due to timeouts, you can always give them a call on the faults support number which is 0114 296 5188 or 0845 140 0080.

Leave your router off for 30 minutes (powered off and unplugged from the phone socket) then try again. Doing so will reset your connection at the exchange and can sometimes resolve problems like this.

Have you connected any new phones or other equipment recently?

Try with no other phones connected in the house and if possible, connected directly to the test socket which is behind the user removable plate on the master socket and see if the problem goes away.

I've had some major disconnection problems with Metronet for the last week (mostly disconnected for the week) - see http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=metronet&Number=3031806&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=

Since the original poster is on Metronet, and going through Metronet support, shouldn't this be in the Metronet forums? Or have the Metronet and Plusnet operations merged both networks and tech support?

The network and support were largely merged over a year ago. Only the product lines are different nowadays in reality.
