The speed issue

There seem to be references on the website regarding slow speeds.
My sync is 8128 but I am only getting downloads at around 1800. Naturally
I am not too happy with this as I am also (having been forcibly made to retire) trying to
balance download volume and costs.
(Edit Later - Have discovered to my horror that my IP profile has been reset to 2000k.
Support are on the case but I have expressed concern as to how this happened)

I notice that PN do not do LLU. Would I be better with a SP who does do LLU or
can I hope for improvements from PN soon?

I have also adjusted myself from a fixed download (Gb) to a max price in pounds.
Does this take effect immediately as I may be back to 128k again soon!

Thanks James but somebody is already on the case. Apparently I disconnected
the phone last night and reconnected so that Sky could tweak the box (losing the recording of the dancing results is not good for domestic relations).

Subsequently this deliberate disconnect was interpreted as a fault and the linespeed reduced to 2k. I am told that if it stays connected for three days it will be back to normal.

Have to say the consequences of simply unplugging the phone seem a bit drastic.

PS Do you know if Anthony Vollmer went to Cambridge and originally lived in Cheshire?

Did you just unplug the phone or did you unplug the router too?

If you just unplug the router's phone line from the socket without turning the router off the exchange will see it as a fault on the line. If you power the router down before unplugging, the router will disconnect the line "gracefully" and you shouldn't have any issues.

Also, just to reiterate Oldjim's post - you do have everything filtered that is connected to your phone line - especially the Sky box!!?

Unplugging the router will not affect the IPrate which is determined entirely by the synch speed. To drop to 2000kbps it must have seen a low speed synch which was why I asked about the filter.
Even connecting a phone without a filter can really mess up the synch rate.

Unplugging can still stop a low IP from rising to where it should be, as it needs a good sync maintained

Interesting - I haven't seen that effect when messing about with my phone/router

To be honest with you, asking Anthony where he went to university wasn't on the list of questions

Basically, with BTs implementation of MAx, if you do sync at a lower speed then your profiled speed is reduced. I know it's not always pretty but its how the system works.

Your speeds should pick up again relatively quickly as it's a fairly drastic drop/rise.

Sky box is connected for ten minutes every now and again but
with a filter. My view is that they should be connected as little as possible.
