I understand that.

What I was getting at is that simply yanking the router's phone line connection out of the wall socket without turning the router off first may have consequences - it's best to turn off the router before pulling the phone line out of the wall. (Most routers will have "dying gasp" circuitry built in to allow a graceful disconnection from the exchange if they are powered off.)

Just posting a public note of thanks to support for sorting this out for me.
Now running at 6Mb which is more than enough.

Next time I disconnect the phone line I promise to turn the router off first.......
