He''s syncing at 8128 though and that's the maximum for an ADSL Max connection. His SNR margin doesn't need to drop any further - it just means he's got more headroom on his line as he's close to the exchange.

As it's a newly activated line it's normal for the IP profile to be set at 2000 initially (causing the speeds to be round the 2meg mark). Once the line has been active for couple of days and a stable sync is maintained (in this case the maximum of 8128) the IP profile will increase (and should now be 7150 for an 8128 sync) allowing the OP to achieve the higher throughput he's now seeing.

Maybe if you read the earlier posts in the thread, particularly mine, you wouldn't have said all that .

But I accept your opening point, as he is on 8128 sync the SNRM stuff is irrelevant. However depending on DSLAM and his router chipsets and OFF/Auto interleaving settings, interleaving could come on to counter instability.
