Get ISP-independent email anyway then you never have to worry again, and you have an address that you have chosen. There are freebies such as googlemail which I believe is fairly good, but better is a dedicated paid-for service.
You need a domain - Purple Cloud, (click in my sig), charge £7.50 for two years for
yourdomain.co.uk or
yourdomain.me.uk. Then an email service to go with it, again PC charge £10 per year with 10 mailboxes, unlimited aliases, POP3/SMTP/IMAP/Webmail, and Spam Assassin running on the servers.
There are cheaper, but I have been with PC a fair while now and they are good and reliable. Also upgrading works a dream just like it says on their site.
You could be up and running in a few hours and notify all your contacts/subscriptions and so on immediately. Then send on the new one and read on it and Plusnet, to see if any turn up you have forgotten. Until you migrate when you can let the Plusnet drop or do as suggested by ian72.
