0870 and 0845 Phone Numbers

[link to this post]

As PN is BT owned will PN follow BT in offering free calls in some of its phone packages to 0870 and 0845 numbers?

Just a point about the Repliies 39 and 43 on that forum, by Anotherone.

He has it wrong.

BT Option 2 phone is £10.50pm rental if you take paperless billing and D/D payment. (I'm on quarterly billing but I think the monthly is the same). The Evenings and Weekend package is chargeable if you take that package on its own monthly deal but it is free if you take it on an annual basis. (Crazy but true).

Even though I have the Option 2 12-monthly Evening and Weekend package, the 12 months applies only to that aspect. If I got rid of my BT line it is 14 days notice and I would have to pay the balance of the 12-months E & W charge at whatever the rate is now after the Vat reduction.

Additionally (subtractionally? ) Caller Display is chargeable, except that too is free if your take the free Telephone Preference Service to stop unwanted spam calls as it is included in that service. Again, crazy but true.

Drawback is I am finding the caller display is not reliable - some calls it picks up and others it doesn't. It only seems to work for a few days after I go into my BT Account and check the details, then it stops. There was something I read a while ago, just after the previous changes, that CD only recorded calls arising in the BT network but that isn't the case when mine is working and would make it a laughable irrelevance if it were. Neither can I find that statement again.

Interesting post RobertoS.

I have juggled the costs and benefits around of using PN or BT for my phone, and keep returning to think BT is better for me. Like you I use the spam caller display option, and pay DD paperless.

I often worry what the repair service is like with PN. I havent had much downtime with BT, but when I do its a 0800 free call from my neighbour and its fixed quickly.

Much of my phone use is via Skype and Skypeout making my phone bills tiny.

I cant comment on caller display but I do find more and more people are ex directory with CD permanently blocked. An interesting point this, going XD doesnt block your number being forwarded, you have to request it, although it can be done at the same time but they dont ask you!

My BB is with PN and I have enjoyed good service. I took the offer a year ago of saving £36 PA and have just been invited to renew. I like the Geo help phone number and the facility to observe how busy they are.
