After 530 hours at.......

a margin of approx 12db and a sync of over 2700 ~ I finally thought my 'line' & connection had settled into a good pattern. Though as noted in other posts nothing like it used to be about a year ago!!!

But at about 8am this morning it jumped again to 14.9db and sync 2528

FFTC can not come quick enough and I think BT should get into the real world and offer a 21st century product sooner rather than later. If other countries can do it why cant we???

After ten months at a target margin of 9dB, mine has from 8:30am today dropped to 6dB and a sync of 6208, so I have at present slightly different emotions to you.

I'll now have to wait and see if it's only temporary, or not...

Is the function of varying the SNR Margin controlled by BT? ... or is it the ISP that does this?

My neighbour had a line fault some 3 weeks ago and BT spent all day fixing it. His SNR Margin is now 15db and consequently, Sync Speed is around 4000Kbps. The Attenuation is 35.5db which is slightly better than mine and I am sync'ed at 8012Kbps.

He is with AOL at present .... but maybe not for much longer...

People are you aware that FTTC is VDSL2 that is again potentially subject to interference?

As the received wisdom is to do a resync at about midday I will delay that to see if I get back to the higher level sometime over the weekend.

Andrew, ref FFTC ~ interference???? I thought Fibre was for all practical purposes free if external interference. Yes, I surmise the metal cables from cabinet to house would still be potentially affected but in my case it would go from approx 5km down to less than 0.5km of metal.

Having said all that In may well have moved house by the time FFTC takes place on a widescale basis, so I live in hope of a better connection somewhen????

The fibre is immune to RF noise, but the metal cables are not, and as VDSL2 goes up to 30MHz you are in a world of potential other interference, hence the SSFP being used for VDSL2 product roll-out by Openreach
