Hi all,
According to support, my aunt should have been switched to Plusnet Value (with 10GB allowance) today - as it's her billing date.
Checking this morning, she has indeed been switched but Plus are trying to take £11.99 !!!
This is bizarre since the service is clearly advertised as £5.99 FOR EVERYONE for the first 3 months and then for "Market 3" people (which my aunt is ... her exchange is THGG) stays at £5.99
Has this happened to anyone else when they switched to Value ?

I've just checked an account I look after which moved to Value at the weekend.
The account summary here says £11.99(monthly) *BUT* the invoice has a "Special Offer Discount" of £6 applied meaning only £5.99 is payable.
From reading their own forums, the product is designed as an £11.99 product with the reduced pricing being done by discounts applied to the invoice (which is certainly the case with the account I looked at).
It may be worth checking the invoice here to see if a discount has been applied. (Both links in this post will need the relevant PN account login.)

that makes sense - and maybe my aunt was jumping the gun.
an invoice hasn't been created for today's payment yet so I will check back later. But I can see how it might look confusing to a technophobe who wouldn't necessarily look beyond the "Account Summary" page.

I also arranged to change an aunt's package from BBYW1 to the new £5.99 package. I was also astounded to see the headline figure of £11.99 in the member centre so I raised a ticket. Got a very quick reply and an apology referring to the £6 discount. Apparently PN's system doesn't show the discount everywhere it should. The actual invoice was correct at £5.99. Strangely it didn't show £11.99 minus £6 discount, just £5.99.
I'd call it teething troubles with the new packages. At least PN took the correct amount of money and they respond to queries. Imagine if it had been Tiscali.......

That's exactly what happened with my aunt in the end - no mention of the £6 discount either just a straight payment of £5.99

I think we're agreed it's a minor glitch in PN's systems. Nothing to worry about. Both aunts should now be happy with their internet provision.
The real problem with my aunt is her PC. It's a 3GHz machine with 512MB of RAM but it works at the speed of an elderly slug running through treacle. Vista + Norton look like the main culprits but she won't let me sort it out

I would have thought that running Vista with 512MB memory was the first thing to fix.

Im just buying 4gb for a work machine - only £33 dirt cheap these days
cclonline.com are usually pretty good, but of course there are plenty of alternatives

Well Vista is supposed to need a minimum of 1GB so will be eating the disc controller and RAM management swapping stuff in and out, also using a fair whack of CPU, and Norton eats CPU, so I agree with you.
There can't be much happening for Norton to look at  .

Agreed - I have a Dell Quad core at home which came with 3GB and Vista Home Premium. Even that machine was slow running Vista plus I didn't like it so I went back to XP. I saw a deal on ram I couldn't resist so now have 8GB and Vista Home Premium x64. It's OK when you get used to it and it now flies along.

It shows my age but I can remember the outcry when OS/2 2.0 was released and it required 4MB ram to work well. OS/2 1.3 you see was lightning fast with only 1.5MB ram. Those were the days

I would blame the retailer that sold her a Vista box with so little RAM.

Tell me about it... just moved jobs get to the new place and the so called IT proffesional has given me a vista pc with 1gb of ram.... inexcusable ineptitude given that he was briefed that the pc would be intensively used for bulk mailing production.

This is getting totally OT but what do you expect from a machine from PC Hell that had been bought and given to her by an innocent friend. If I was allowed to get my hands on it I'd put XP on it along with Avast Free and it would fly along.
The main thing is that she's very happy to have internet for £4/month cheaper so thankyou Plusnet. The 12 month minimum contract is unimportant in this case. It was 12 months and not the 18 which seems to apply to new customers.
