Performance Dropoff

[link to this post]

Morning all,

For the last couple of days I've been experiencing a severe dropoff in performance, to the point where during the day my connection is pretty much useless, and it doesn't really improve much in the evening.

Up until this point the connection has been absolutely rock solid with good speeds - no I am wondering if for some reason the connection is being throttled.

Stats from the router and speed test results are below:
Connection Speed 5824 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 19.5 db
Noise Margin 6.6 db 21.0 db

Speedtest from this site at 16:00 yesterday:
Speed Down 34.15Kbps ( 0.0 Mbps )
Speed Up 372.64 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

And from 06:45 this morning:
Speed Down 190.96 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Speed Up 371.44 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

Anyone got any bright ideas? I have tried connecting the router to the master socket and performance has not changed.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

It sounds like your IP Profile has been changed by BT.

Have you managed to run a BT speedtest at all?

Hi James,

I tried for most of last night to try and get the BT Speedtester to run and failed miserably every time.

Also tried early this morning and still no joy. Given up with it for the moment in disgust smile

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I've seen similar responses when directed at the BT Speedtester smile

If you PM me with your username I should be able to find out your IP Profile.

Re: Performance Dropoff - back to normal

A quick update on my poor speed.

Big thanks to James for investigating yesterday, and confirming that there seemed to be no problems with my profile or the line itself, so looks like it was a hardware issue.

Purchased a new router and tried that last night with the same rubbish speeds - argh!!!!

thought I would leave things and see if it settled overnight and lo and behold just done a new speedtest here and getting 4200Kbps much more like it smile

So panic over and the mrs can get back to shopping for whatever she shops for on ebay.

Cheers,
Dave
