That'll be goodbye from me

This sudden end to Frontpage support means I will leave as soon as I find another ISP

They don't listen

Apart from niche ones rarely if ever heard of on here, though it seems some of those are very good, there are only 9 or 10, not all LLU. What exchange are you on?

But apart from that I assume you are using Plusnet web space and therefore probably email as well!

That's the wrong thing to do.

You can get your own domain for pennies per month, mine are with Purple Cloud but there are many such as 1 & 1 and 123. Then Home email releases you for ever from ISP-dependent web space email services/addresses.

Purple Cloud are Linux based, but seem (not my speciality) to support FrontPage. See this KnowledgeBase article.

If that doesn't suit then there are plenty of Windows Server based ones that will handle your web pages, wherever you register your domain. The site you use to register your domain doesn't have to be the same as your web host.

So if you like Plusnet as an ISP you could stay. If you are really mad at them then I'm sure we can find a suitable alternative, particularly if you do as I suggest above.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

Yes I 'm going for a cheap hosting - with my own domain, I won't be left with addresses that become dead .

Will find another ISP as I strongly dislike their attitude

I use Purple Cloud. Not the cheapest but I have found them almost faultless for two-and-a-half years.

Re the new ISP, as I asked before, what exchange? (That's if you want any opinions of course smile ).

It does, as your exchange may offer LLU which can be faster and cheaper than BT adsl. Thats why Roberto is asking what exchange you are on. It would also be helpfull to post your router line stats.

If you are after cheap hosting with lots of features and good limits, i use this American company called surpass. Been with them a few years and bay about £40 a year. What you get for that far out strips anything you can get in the uk at that price. Plus they now have the option of UK data centers. I got mine hosted in the states as its cheaper and it loads fast as you like . You can pay via paypal

The problem with Surpass for the OP is that they have also discontinued Frontpage extension support as have 1and1.

This seems to be a general trend.

Is that not because it is now obsolete and microsoft no longer make it or up date it since 2006. Plenty of alternatives that are free with surpass

That is also one of the reasons Plusnet withdrew it as there is a major security vulnerability which won't be fixed
As you may already be aware, we recently announced that we had disabled editing and publishing access to the FrontPage web servers. If you missed this announcement then you can see a copy of it over on our Service Status feed - http://usertools.plus.net...us/archive/1251473759.htm

The reason we took this decision was to help safeguard you from a recently published security vulnerability that could potentially have put your FrontPage data at risk.

Our customers' security is important to us and whilst we recognised that disabling access was inconvenient, we felt it the best course of action considering the circumstances.

After a full review of the platform we have decided that the most sensible course of action is to stop offering FrontPage web hosting, and to start making arrangements to decommission the platform.
