New Value/Pro - no webspace or hosting, what's going on?

[link to this post]

Hi,

I am on Broadband Your Way Pro, had a slight query this evening, all sorted on the phone by a helpful guy at Plusnet.

However during the call I was made aware of the new Pro product, I thought I would look at the features on the website, no webspace or hosting, what is going on?

And how committed are Plusnet to continuing the hosting and webspace on my current account?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

As you correctly observe, PlusNet's current offerings compise of only three products - Value, Unlimited and (new) Pro. None of these products are offered with any of the value-added services of the now Legacy products.

The good news is that any of the services that you currently have activated on your Legacy Product account can be transferred to any of the new products if you change product.

Thanks, so how committed are Plusnet to continuing the hosting and webspace on the legacy accounts?

We're just committed to upgrading the existing platform to PHP5.

We wouldn't be doing that if we were planning on turning it off.

For info, £1 domain is also available on the new products (we register a domain for you for an extra £1 subscription fee).

I have this on a legacy product. However, on the current products does this domain come with any hosting? Otherwise what would be the point because registration alone is cheaper elsewhere.

Nope, there's no hosting on the new account types (although you can use PAYH).

Ultimately, it's your call as the customer who you use for your domain registration.

James,

I am confused, what is the point in upgrading if you are not selling the service to new customers?

Or is Value/Unlimited/Pro + PAYH effectively the same arrangement as the legacy products, i.e. where you control hosting and domains via the PN portal?

Thanks.

If you upgrade, you keep all of your existing services.

Hosting isn't available for 'new' customers, but you get to keep it if you already have it on an existing service.

So where does PAYH come in, is that not simply PN charging for the hosting that was previously included? And is PAYH integrated within the portal so controlled via the PN member centre as per the legacy products?

I.e: domain and hosting was std and is now optional?

Thanks.

PAYH runs on Plesk/Expand software and lives on a different set of servers entirely (although it does share the same storage as the Homepages platform). It has a standalone website and is treated as a separate entity i.e. not integrated with the Plusnet Member Centre.

We did run a trial some time ago when we were thinking of moving across to Plesk for value added hosting (what you used to get with your DSL account) although the trial has since been closed.

Domain and hosting was provided with the older products but isn't with the newer iterations.
