Usenet speeds - just a weekend thing?

[link to this post]

Broadband Unlimited was activated on my second line Friday morning.

Old line syncs at 7200 (used to sync at 8128/7616) and Snr falls about 4 to 6db during the night. New line syncs at 8128 and Snr falls around 3db.

Browsing during the day can be pretty slow but it gets there. Haven't put the kids on it yet as I'm still busy seeing how Plusnets Unlimited package performs.

Usenet was fairly up and down Friday morning until 12:45 when it dropped to 250k. Then got full line speed (700k+) from around 3am to 9am (Sat morning).

After that it's very uneven until it's fully throttled to 256k or less at 12:45 again. Tonight it's been between 150 and 450k but waiting until 00:00 when it's supposed to be unthottled again.

Edit.
Well, looks like I have a problem, checked at 3am and 7am, still running at about 200k frown

Hopefully this is a weekend thing frown

Now 10:30 Sunday and still pants, so much for it being line speed fom 00:00 to 12:00. It's not exchange congestion or a news server problem, if I switch to my other line using Titan Surfwise it runs at full speed.

If this is no better during the week then I need to find another provider..

What IP profile does a BT Speed Test show and what IP Profile is currently held on the Plusnet system?

They can get out of step and then unless kicked the Plusnet one can stay low indefinitely.

Just switched back to the Plusnet line to check, web browsing is like treacle frown

Router still solid at 8128

BT Speedtest shows,

Download speedachieved during the test was - 630 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

Complete pants, even Enta were better than this at weekends (just!)

Can't see anything on my Plusnet account page with the info, no doubt I will have to ring them again. I assume it's the profile on their radius server ??

Edit,
Rang the UK number and got straight through, shows as 6500 there as well.

Online spedtests show 600-700k, should be 700K+ frown

When you have time have a read of this and the part regarding the Maximum Stable Rate. (MSR) - Training / Stabilisation Period.

I know about that, have had a single stable connection since I connected on Friday morning, synced at 8128 rock solid, no drops, monitored with Router Stats to be sure.

NNTP shows 2.7k for non-SSL on port 119 frown
SSL on port 563 is 1.5 to 7k
SSL on other port is 130k

Have just tried dropping the PPOA session, same results frown

OK, it was worth checking. Yes I did mean the Radius Profile can fail to update.

3am Monday morning and speeds back to 600K+ so looks like very much like either a severe lack of capacity or the Ellacoyas are not set as stated in the specs, Either way it looks like weekends are unusable. frown

8:15am and speeds down to 400K, very uneven, varying between 400-700K minute by minute, Newsleecher graph looks like a map of the Andes.
