I've had an email back saying this has now been done, it's reset to 6db and should take effect within the next couple of hours.

BT made the change at about 7.30pm last night and sync speed is now up by about 60% (from 3.5Mb up to 5.5Mb). As soon as the profile catches up (which I am happy to wait for the automatic change) this connection should fly.

What were your snr/attentuation/sync rate figures pre and post requesting to change the SNR value?

Attenuation didn't change. Only difference was the SNR went down to 6dB. It was able to run at a minimum of 5Mb at 6dB raising to 7Mb during the day. However, even though it was holding those speeds there seem to be random SNR spikes that last a very brief time. This was happening about 8 times a day. And those have now reset the target SNR to 15dB and so back down to 3Mb. Looks like that's the best it is going to get - very annoying.
Little point in trying to get BT to fix this as they would probably have to replace miles of overhead cable to make any difference.

Hmm.... I guess the only real improvment and solution long line users will see is the implementation of FTTC.
