Hi all,
I am currently with adsl24 30 gig package, I live in the sticks so no llu available and on a 2.5 m BT profile but get nowhere near this speed most of the time. Looking at plusnet premium... is this a good package/ provider to change to? Any help appreciated
Cheers

Just be aware of the Plusnet traffic shaping on their network for the various packages.
Edit > if you have a bit more money to spend have a look here, could be too costly for you.

You can find chart here if you don't want shaping go for Pro although 20 git peak time limit http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping.htm

Yes bit concerned about their shaping, as I use p2p a little. Looked a idnet , 30 package is a little costly , shame they dont do an inbetween package. Are speeds reliable on plusnet?

thanks for replies, this maybe the way to go , but are speeds reliable on this package? Seems to be some bad reports similar to Enta on this isp. Dont want to tie into a 12 month contract and be no better off.
Cheers

Can you get any LLU from the better ISPs at your exchange > check

sadly no llu at all, rural exchange with 2,223 users, not due for an upgrade even... until 2011

There is no 12 month contract. The contract is a 10 day contract with tie only thing to pay to leave with 10 days notice is the migration fee if you decide to defer it and the router if you choose to take one. These charges expire after 12 months.

Have you had a look at packages from Newnet?
"Unlimited" during their off peak hours of 2.00am until 7.00am

Newnet maybe the way to go...... 20gig package should be just managable if I watch my 2 teens usage... haha
Thanks

Be very careful with the unmetered time on Newnet!
Scroll down this page to read about it.

Hi Robertos
I take you mean the bit about re-syncing my router on the hour to sync with newnet system.... thanks. I assume if you dont could be charged for upto an extra hour after 2am?

You can sign up to the no contract option, 10days notice if you decide to leave within 12 months then you have to pay a deferred migration charge of £30 also if you have a house move within the first 12 months or if you take a router from them you have to pay for that, so as long as you don't move house or take a router the charge is £30.
There have been a few problems lately but they are getting them sorted out, the main problems they've had is that one of the gateways is playing up so balancing is out, being on Pro it hasn't affected me too much, I also have no LLU, it's a small exchange with no hope of anything else till 2011.
You can check the various problems here http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/ it might give you a better idea of what is going on so you can make the right decision for you

Wonder if the problems have any connection with the PN introduction of ADSL2+?????
Probably not.

I started a thread in the Newnet forum about it earlier. I don't expect much response till tomorrow but I expect it will get an answer.
The problem is that they only read the meter once per hour, and your reading time starts when you connect. (Technically when the session starts, so renewing the session works if your router supports that).
Working out the safe period outside 3-6am is a nightmare as there is insufficient information.

I don't know, they've had problems with the various pcl gateways but have lit more capacity again at the end of last week, they don't seem afraid of adding capacity which is good

Thanks for all your help people, still unsure which way to jump..... plusnet or newnet? And my Enta connection is flying (relatively on my long line) this evening. Fingers crossed...
