Upgraded to ADSL+2 and speeds have dropped

[link to this post]

Hi

Just been upgraded to ADSL+2 and my speeds have gone down from 5.8 to 4.

Also my ping times are slower.

Not too into networks, but is there something i should be doing on my side. Is there anything to alter on my router.

I have a DG834G router v3 with latest firmware, anything i need to change on this?

My stats are as follows:

connection speed 17614 down and 445 up
line atten 20 down and 5 up
noise 6 down 24 up
according to my router

but my noise figures were slightly better before i was put on +2

However i think these figures should give me more than 4mb

When i was on a standard connection i was constant at 5.8 day or night Now i am getting 4

Yet i am synced at 17614

I am only a few hundred yards from the bt exchange

i am on plusnet premium and they say i should get up to 20 meg

What could be wrong here

Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be getting speed tests of around 15Mb/s - very good line.

The noise margin has gone down as your line is now using it's full power rather than being hobbled to the 8Mb of ADSL.

Your router is more than likely fine. Plusnet use BTs 21CN and therefore has the same BRAS profiles as normaly ADSL. It is quite possible that it will take a few days for the profile to raise to the full speed. I believe you can find out through the BT speed tester what the profile is set to. Also, trying real downloads rather than speed testers may give a better indication of total throughput.

As ian72 says.

Here is an extended IP Profile table.

You are misreading the router setting. It is VC or LLC, which is the multiplexing mode.

So far as I know you are VC.

Hi there,

Your profile should increase over the next few days, though you may see speed fluctuations for the first 10 days on 21CN.

ok
been 3 days now still no change in speed at all
my router is synced at 17614 and a speedcheck at bt tels me my ip profile is now 15000
there is no varying speed its the same as 3 days ago
i also notice my ping times are a lot slower
is this normal to have a high ip profile and good sync with such a low download speed
i will wait a while longer
thanks

Plusnet use a copy of the BT IP Profile.

This should catch up with the BT original within a couple of hours I believe, but sometimes it fails to update at all. As they apply to copy to your line you need to find out what it is set at.

/me looks at Mand and raises an eyebrow (not at the pink trainers). BT profile 15000 (correctly) but download speed 4Mbps?

LOL how do i find out that now
Well when i joined plusnet premium upto 20meg i would of thought they would have put me on the appropiate line/package
but i find out months later that i need to ask to be upgraded even though they take your money for the premium package without telling you
now that i have found this out i need to tell them that they need to update my ip profile this is crazy
LOL

The auto-update usually works. I think the fault is probably at the BT end as the same happens with Entanet (resellers) - the only other ISP I know of that does this.

Contact support or Mand. I don't think you can see it yourself.
