PN rep(s) - help identifying what you sent me please

[link to this post]

Hi folks, I've got a loan router and various associated bits and bobs (power supply, filter etc.) boxed up and ready to return to you.

But (and this is my fault - I should have made a note) there is one item I'm not sure whether is yours or mine. confused

The (bright yellow!) cable that goes between the router and the computer is definitely yours, as I'm sure I don't own any that colour.

But I think the other cable - the one that goes between the filter and the router - might be one I had here at home already.

Can anyone shed any light, please, about what you send out? (Doesn't seem to be a packing list).

I'm relying on your honesty here, as I genuinely don't know.

I'd have said it was the other way round, the ethernet cable (router to PC) is yours and the filter to router cable came with the router - every boxed router I've seen is like that.

Looking in the Netgear box (I left all the rubbish in) it came with both and I thought my old Speedtouch did as well

It wasn't a brand new boxed router, though. Just a spare they sent me to help with diagnostics. I'm pretty sure the ethernet cable can't be mine, because I would remember owning a lemon-yellow cable.

But the other one looks sort of familiar, as if it's one I've had for yonks.

I wouldn't worry too much about that one cable wink I'm sure we can find a replacement here if we need to loan the router out to anyone else.

OK, thanks Chris. I don't think anything else was in doubt. All the other bits I knew were yours, but when I got to that one cable, I thought: "Wait a minute: this reminds me of one I've always had!" I thought a quick check of the packing list would confirm one way or the other, but there doesn't seem to be any packing list.

A new TG585v7 box has a contents list in the "Setting up your Thomson Gateway" leaflet.

The contents are:
  • Thomson Gateway
  • Power Supply
  • Two Microfilters
  • Ethernet cable (yellow)
  • Phone cable (grey)
  • The Set-up leaflet (Quick Install Guide)

Oh well, I've sent it all back now.

I didn't include the cable, as I honestly wasn't sure. Also no sign of the second microfilter; I don't think there ever was one.

This wasn't a "new" package. Just one kicking around in a very battered box that they send out for people to test with.

Turns out it was a complete waste of time and effort anyway, as the problem never had anything to do with my router, and was a BT issue at the exchange.

Seems we (more particularly, I) still had to go through the rigmarole of PROVING it wasn't my kit.

Hi TLM, thanks for that. What you've sent back sounds fine to me.

With regard to proving the fault was not caused by your equipment, unfortunately this always has to be done before we raise a fault in order that we can challenge any engineer charges that are raised from the investigations.
