Cut off for going over allowance

[link to this post]

I'm on plus.net value.

My billing cycle was shortened from 25th of each month to the 18th, I was cut off yesterday and spent most of the day figuring out why. Going through all technical things first before phoning up. It never crossed my mind that I would be cut for going over the broadband limit even though it reset for last month.

For anyone unfamiliar the monthly limit is 10GB, I used 11GB, that's E-L-E-V-E-N.

Nobody in billing or technical support apologised, they were blase about disconnecting me.

Why would plus.net disconnect me when my billing cycle is being reset anyway.

Even though I have gone over the monthly limit I have actually lost out, because I am paying a months rental for 3 weeks of bandwidth.

I really hate to say this, and if anyone knows how bad TT can be, but I wish I never left TalkTalk now!! And I've only been with plus.net for 3 months!

Right so you put a cost limit on your account which stopped Plusnet taking £2 for an extra 2GB of usage.
Then you complain when you get internet access blocked
Did I get anything wrong

A) I'm more than happy to pay £2

B) Got no warning that my Internet access woud stop altogether, no phones calls. Nothing.

C) I still paid full price for 3 weeks service.

You may be happy with poor level of service oldjim, but I am not. You may be happy offsourcing all UK jobs to Chindia plc when people here are desparate for work and can understand English.

Name me one other ISP that cuts someones service over a measly £2?

Plus.net have failed to provide quality of service according to their service terms, stick that in your pipe oldjim.

So if you were happy to pay the £2 why did you put a cost limit on your account.
You should have received an email warning you that you were approaching your usage limit similar to this
You're approaching your product's broadband peak-time usage allowance of 10GB for this month. We've sent you this email to help you manage your usage, and ensure you don't face unexpected charges.

There's no limit on how much you can use, but once you've used your 10GB allowance, additional usage is charged at £2 per 2GB.

View Your Broadband Usage
You can check your usage at any time on our website with View Your Broadband Usage - https://portal.plus.net/view_my_broadband_usage/inde...

Set A Broadband Price Limit
No need to be concerned about spending more than you intend on your broadband usage. You can set your maximum usage on our website - https://portal.plus.net/data_transfer_watch/

Upgrade your usage
If you're often exceeding your usage allowance, why not upgrade your account?

With Plusnet Premium you can increase your monthly allowance to 80GB per month.

Upgrade your account - https://portal.plus.net/upgrade_process.html

The Help Assistant quickly directs you to the information you need, or lets you raise a question directly to our Support Team.

Similar thing happened to one of my accounts last month. Rang plusnet, they lifted it straight away and are processing an upgrade on the account. It is a problem with the way their cost limitter currently works which they are sorting out next month. I believe the emails go to the plusnet email account which I wasn't checking (and possibly the OP wasn't).

However, this is an over-reaction to an annoying issue that can be easily fixed. They haven't cut off the connection just temporarily disabled the access to websites other than plusnets.
