They possibly connected you to another ISP by accident

Would certainly explain the authentication error. Now I am going to have to wait for an engineer to come out and rule out anything at my end. So looks like we are going to be hitting 2 weeks with no adsl, not good.

I had the same problem a couple of months back. I explained to plusnet (after a week of waiting) that it was clearly a problem in BTs authentication systems and not on the line. They then agreed to contact BT 3rd level support who managed to fix the issue within about 5 minutes without having to visit the property at all.

It was Orbrey on here that got it sorted for me.

Thanks mate, its getting beyond a joke. I'll try and get plusnet to escalate it with BT, as you say it looks like I am having the same issue as you did and its not the wiring to the exchange that's at fault.
So if anyone from Pnet is on here, please escalate this with BT, its an authentication error not a connection error

You could try PMing orbrey (Matt) on here. He is usually pretty good at chasing these things up.

Latest Update.
BT engineer has just visited my house and all his tests have passed.
Still no adsl for me yet though.

Downtime thus far, approx 10 days.

Edit: Now fixed
