[link to this post]

Hi, is the Plusnet supplied Thomson 585v7 Wireless Router (Plusnet Version) worth the £6.99 P&P, and does it have the Plusnet logo printed on it? wink

Can the router be flashed with Thomson firmware? smile

I need to know! confused

Yes you can flash it with the standard Thomson Firmware
No it isn't worth £6.99 - I wouldn't touch a Thomson Router with a bargepole since they emasculated the firmware shocked

It has a Thomson logo printed on it, which is odd because they are now called Technicolor!

Oliver.

That is a very new change though. There are no doubt thousands of 'old' routers with the previous name on that they need to sell.

My Netgear DG834G started playing up a while ago, so I acquired one of these Thomson routers as a spare from my mother-in-law who joined PlusNet and didn't need it.

I get around 7MB on my 'up to 8MB' package and the router rarely loses sync, so I've not had the need to mess with it.

Whilst the interface is poor and nowhere near as useful/advanced as the Netgear, I've not had any problems with it so far so it seems to be fairly reliable.

Agreed, a Netgear would be nice but at £6.99 its nothing to complain about. Mind you I would not complain about a Zoom with a Voip port in the spec either.....

Hi

Does anyone have a guide as to how to set up MAC address filtering on this Thomson.

Long story short I use a Netgear DG834Gv4 and as a test with my current loss of BB I configured a 585v7 I had unused as test replacement. Sadly the test showed it is the line at fault not the Router but in my testing the 585 sync'ed at higher speed than the Netgear so in due course it may be best to use the 585 but here is the rub I use non standard IP and DHCP setup which was sorted fine.

But as I use some wireless kit and indeed wired kit I like to exercise control over the access filtering but could I find the settings in the GUI, heck I could. Now unless the 585 only opens that in the GUI when it detects other kit - for the test I did not attach anything other than the main PC - just how do you do it????

TIA for any pointers??

smile
