Can Plusnet shed some light please?

Getting 40-42ms pings to the DNS server, and this site.

Speed test:



Prior to that speedtest, I attempted to download test files on ports 80, 81 and 8080.

Just new to Extra, and here is my month's usage so far.

Also the latency for the past 24hrs.

Ideas on what's going on there would be great.

Maybe you've had interleaving applied on the line by BT?

Looks interleaved as the latency is similar all way through.

Not sure if you can change it via their control panel but might be worth a call or help ticket asking them to check the status and set to off if it has been turned on.

The first question would be,

"Was interleaving enabled on my old Premier Option 1 service?"

Prior to my switch, my pings were in the 38-40ms range. After I re-wired and I assume re-trained the connection (before the switch over), I was getting 45ms. Then it dropped down to 40ms again over time.

I have never asked for it to be on or off, so would want to know what the likely effect is for my line, and there's not point in messing around if it has always been on. However, if I can get a better line, fine.

Why would interleaving cause file downloads to be 1 Meg, while Speedtests are 6 Meg?

If your http download is delivered via a content delivery network, such as Akamai, you can expect it to fall into the download site or server category. These have management applied at peak times. Normal http traffic will be unaffected, which is why your speedtest result is full whack.

I clicked on a TBB download speedtest file. The 100MB one to be precise. The default is on port 80. I also tried the same files over ports 81 and 8080. Same result.

No idea what Akamai or the rest of that post is about.
