126 kbps

[link to this post]

Hi,

I have just moved to a new build property at Middleton just outside Leeds and i have got a plusnet connection for the last 10 days. The maximum download speed that i am getting is 126 kbps (at all times during the day)

My Broadband Speed Test

The BT line check says that the maximum speed that i can get on my line is 500 kbps which i personally feel is unacceptable. My neighbours seem to be getting reasonable download speeds in the range of 1.5 Mbps to 2.1 Mbps. I have not had any response from plusnet for the fault that i logged. What should i do next please? Will changing of ISP help as the problem seems to be with BT landline also

Thanks for your advice.

Looking at your stats in the other thread your attenuation is 64dB which means you'll never get great speeds.

I'm stuck in the same boat myself, line previously had about 2Mbps sync speed from the previous tenants (and on TalkTalk LLU) switching to a BT Openreach line for PN Home Phone and PN MaxDSL gives me an attenuation of 63db on the downstream but only 15db on the upstream, looks to be the same as the OP.

There's a fault ticket open at the minute and it's now been escalated to BT but I've been seeing similar issues across the PN boards. Anyone know if BT has changed how they play with the pairs at the cabinets or exchanges? Seems they have messed up the actual cabling at one of those two because if it was a physical cabling issue outside of the cabinet, exchange and the property it would have bad attenuation on both downstream and upstream.

As a general rule of thumb the downstream should be somewhere close to double the upstream figure which seems to be fairly common place ,although there is some degree of variance what your router is reporting seems a bit odd to say the least, but routers don't always report the true values
