Router Question

[link to this post]

I will be looking to join PlusNet from O2 in the next day or so, I currently have Billion 7800n router which I would like to keep using, are there any issues with this and would it need setting different than it has been set for O2?
It is on ADSL 2+ Annex M

Thanks

Other than changing username and password it should work fine.

Thanks for the quick response Andrew, its good to know the changes are that simple, no user name or password required for O2.

You may have to change the VCI, VPI and encapsulation as well.

You'll also need to change more than adding just your username and password... O2's multiplexing method is LLC-Based whereas Plusnets is VC based and some other stuff.

Screenshot of my config (Advanced / Configuration / WAN / Profile)

Now pretty much all of that was automatic. Also see the Configuration / WAN / ADSL Mode to ensure Annex M is ticked.

That's for an ADSL2+ connection btw. You also have your Plusnet DNS servers listed there, but I'm not sure if they are auto, or picked up from the PC, as I have them on my local TCP/IP setup.

Don't know. I got it by accident when first upgraded to ADSL2+ laugh

It's a business add-on, I think.

Looks like you need to check which Plusnet products you can get Annex M on!

You will see from the price quoted - £10 + VAT that it is almost certainly on business products only as stated here http://www.plus.net/business/broadband/

That's the sort of thing I expected Jim. Thanks for giving the detail smile.

It isn't at all clear that the OP realises it isn't available free, nor at all on the standard residential products.

Thanks for pointing that out, its not important to me but as you said I didnt know.
