Plusnet are going downhill.
Only perhaps for those with FTTC connections, I'm OK using ADSL1

Down for about an hour this afternoon, thankfully after I'd finished doing something important. Speed hasn't quite recovered to where it was before. I'll give both the modem and my Asus router a kick if things haven't improved by tomorrow.
|
|
|
Just reboot the rooter (power off/on) and so connect via a different gateway. I'm with Plusnet FTTC and that's what i would do.
Simples.

Well I'm currently on pcl-ag07.
TBH I'm not really up on the current network situation because by and large I haven't had many issues in the last 18mths. I saw a 5 mins disconnect during the week at around midnight, but obviously today was a much more pronounced problem.
|
|
|
|
I had to erase my TP-Link router back to factory settings and set it up again after hours of trying everything else, before I could connect to a gateway.

If you look at the "Collated users online" graph it looks like all the new bgn series went down at the same time.
Those have been flaky ever since the first couple were introduced .

Router reboot seems to have made download speeds a little more stable, although down 0.5 MB/sec from max, perhaps that'll creep back up over the next day or two.

My FTTC was down for about an hour between about 5pm and 6pm, I've only just noticed from the BQM. Modem didn't resync, just lost the session.

Well what do you expect when they are offering cheap cheap cheap?
you want higher availability - start paying for it.
you want better infrastructure - start paying for it.
Yes mine also went down during the evening so switched off and went off and did some clearing in the house.

Well what do you expect when they are offering cheap cheap cheap?
Please don't talk nonsense, I've been with Plusnet many times over the decades(including the last 18 months on FTTC) and they aren't any worse than anyone else.

The bottom graph. The higher ones I believe to be the individual Plusnet MSILs.
A few hours ago the big crash was showing. All of the affected ones being bng series.

I've ended up on ptw-bng01 and download speeds are more variable. I had a quick look the Plusnet community forum (not a place I usually frequent) and I've seen only one report of lower speeds. Should such a problem as this have any bearing on speed?

Do those graphs include fibre users? Yes.
The MSILs are the handover points from BT Wholesale. The 21CN equivalent of BT Centrals. More info on this page. On the graphs link I gave, you can see the WBMC ones, followed by the IPSCs. Which gateway am I on? From the tracert I think pcl-cr02. The best check is http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/
(I think that's right, if not just go to the usertools part and it's the last entry on the left. I'm on holiday using Sky so it won't work for me).

I think he's actually on pcl-bng04 (new gateway) as the DNS hasn't updated.
The BNG gateways are only on the WBC interconnects (21CN) so any 20CN customers won't be affected by the BNG issues.

Have you received reports from customers saying speed has become inconsistent or dropped since the failure(s)?
|
|
|
It might well do, if other gateways are down for 21CN users e.g. ADSL2+ etc and FTTC then the ones that are up will be busy if folk reboot and get connected onto the same gateway basically congestion which can lower the throughput speeds, of course it could be some other issue for that range of gateways.

Possibly they are blocking access from Norway for some reason.
Either your IP address could have been specifically blocked due to trying to access the mail servers from there, (suspected hacking attempts), so now you can't access the main website, or the address range you are on is already blacklisted somewhere.
