Plusnet Renewal: No ADSL available

[link to this post]

My mother is currently on a Plusnet ADSL (up to 18 Mb/s) tariff at present.
The contract expires on July 7th, and she is being offered to stay put (at 11:15p/m) or switch to either 38 or 76 FTTC at 7.70 mth

Is the lack of an ADSL choice part of the long term BTOR ditch copper scheme ?

She gets 16 Mb/s and a rock steady connection on the ADSL service, she doesn't need anything faster or better.

Odd though that the 38 and 76 FTTC services (seem to be ) priced exactly the same ?

I could order Plusnet ADSL broadband where I live and I would have to pay £25.99pm for a faster FTTC service.

Maybe your mother lives in an area where BT are starting to discontinue the PSTN.

Surely being offered to stay put would mean her current product continues ???

Watch out for Digital Voice being in the new contract, as that might be better avoided for the moment for your mother. In a few years it will be mandatory, but currently she should be able to keep the normal analogue PSTN service. (It's possible Plusnet don't yet do Digital Voice anyway).

Other than that is seems to be a no-brainer. Better and cheaper. The 38Mbps obviously all she would need, and less likely to jump as much mid or end of the minimum term. These very low prices are usually six months or similar, within a 12-month or longer term.

Yes, of course. It just seems odd that the FTTC options are cheaper, and will presumably cost Plusnet real money to send out BT-OR (possibly it'll be @Zarjaz as it's the Silchester exchange smile )

Sometime in around June your mother could join BT home essentials broadband with up to 40/10 including line rental with up to 700 minutes free calls at £15 a month with no contract if your mum on pension credit with free connection fee and free bt hub router.

Thanks for the info, sounds useful, but it's not for her, she's not on any applicable benefits

Well, yep, I slept on it, and applied for the upgrade.

Still on PSTN, a good thing too, she has a fall alarm
