Waitlist - or NOT

[link to this post]

Have to sort out a connection for a family member, renewed a contract in the middle of last week and specifically asked if they support/subscrbe to the FTTC waitllist. It was confirmed that yes they do and the line would be moved to FTTC when a port became available.

ADSL is bad - slow and temperamantal but VDSL/FTTC has a full 80/20 forecast.

Over the weekend, The cabinet showed AVAILABLE and then I called to day to find out when te change would happen. Basically they told me nothing was planned and when I queried teh Waitlist, I was initially told they don't support fibre on the exchange/cabinet and then that they don't use the Waitlist.

What the **** is going on - do they support FTTC or not? Do they subscribe to te Waitlist?

It does sound like incompetence in not knowing what they support.

Plusnet definitely do not support the waiting list. They did years ago but it's more trouble than it is worth.

I was under the impression that the waiting list was recently suspended due to the huge numbers of cabinets that are at capacity due to COVID and WFH.
Edit: it isn't, just a particular provider has stopped using it due to huge numbers.

The waiting list also isn't as automated as you appear to think it is. It is a very inefficient with manual intervention required.

It sounds like the information that has now turned out to be incorrect was a crucial part of your decision to go with PlusNet, so you could argue the service has been mis-sold if you wanted to walk away from it.

It was teh totally false information given to me. Had I known that they did not support it, I would have made a call late on Saturday to trigger an upgrade when availability was shown - now gone

An elderly relative who does not want to change provider - but needs a better and more reliable connection for video calls to family and for various family members to use for work when they visit for week long times.
