No it doesn't. It can mean any manner of termination of employment, instigated by either party.

Do you think it`s acceptable for one employee to refer to another employee as incompetant, in a public forum. I wonder how he would react to being called unprofessional.

I won`t argue semantics with you but his choice of words suggest the engineer was sacked.

I agree.

However I wouldn't like it if folk were speculating on how I lost my job, especially if they are getting it wrong.

My point exactly! an employee shouldn`t be making comment on how/why another employee left the company. Which brings me back to my original point, it`s far easier to blame an individual, than it is for the company to admit it was at fault.

PN made various comments at the time of the incident which indicated the engineer was following proceedure, and that what happened was a genuine accident. It also stated new proceedures had been put in place to prevent a reoccurance. That should have been end of story.

Having re read the post again, I notice the use of the word "we" suggesting this opinion is held by others within Plusnet.

The problem is that it is (supposedly) an individual's opinion, and not a company statement.

Manner of termination is not important nor who instigated it because the post makes clear that a competent engineer would not have done similar therefore the conclusion that he was incompetent.

("Actually we agree with you." it said) He is no longer with the company therefore implying that due to incompetence he is no longer with the company.

We can debate semantics all day long but that post is as unambiguous as one can get.

If you feel that the interpretation is wrong or the message being sent to the customer is any different please feel free to write down what you understood it to mean.

It's not a question of semantics. It's a question of getting your facts straight.

When made by an employee clearly stating as such, it can be interpreted (legally) as representative. Exactly why most of us emailing from our company mailboxes have disclaimers. Even then, it's still a grey area as it will depend on wording.

However, in this case, it is clearly made by a member of staff ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. There is no disputing the forum in which this appears, that it is a member of staff (or someone representing themselves as such) and the tone of the response clearly reflects poorly on the ex-employee. He may well also not be able to access the forum or be aware of such a posting an so defend himself - it's clearly a cheap shot to get on the customers side.

Personally I'd think long and hard before I considered sending such comment in internal email, whether about a colleague, ex-colleague or customer. I most definitely wouldn't put something on a public forum, where it could fairly easily be tracked back to me and/or my company. Even if it is someone impersonating a member of PN staff, PN should have removed the post with an eplanatory note, rather than leave it there in plain sight.

Again, I reiterate, this is highly unprofessional.

Well obviously the Company are not going to issue that as a statement . But does it not indicate an ethos of not accepting responsibility for mistakes made?. PN have made many statements, via the Comms Team, that max dsl is causing them many problems and that the problem lies with BTW. I`m not saying they are wrong, just that other ISP`s don`t seem to be making such a big deal of their problems.

The LLU problems are blamed on Tiscali. It was PN that decided to use Tiscali, yet PN are not so vociferous in publically lambasting them for their failing service. PN customers without a service for days, weeks on end. Response, "It`s in the hands of our alternative network provider", they wouldn`t until recently say the word "Tiscali".

Plusnet must take more responsibility as a Company, customers want a working connection. If Tiscali can`t provide one PN need to be proactive and move customers back to ipstream asap.

Perhaps you would be kind enough and enlighten me as to which facts I have wrong.
