Friends use 1 of these prefix override providers. It comes in as International, which triggers a scam-caller alert  and the quality of the voice is awful.
1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC

18185 intermittently showing up on the recipients caller display as "International" was the main reason I stopped using it, since people thought I was a spam caller and didn't pick up.

I never reply to International calls.
They are blocked with my Truecall unit here, including International numbers that are withheld, something BT could not do even when I once paid them £4 per month to block anonymous calls.

its sad how long this thread is, people are spending more than ever on food, mobile devices, holidays etc. yet what has turned out to be a almost irrelevant price increase on a already underpriced product has got all this attention.

Leaving aside the derailment of this thread about how I could save more money by dumping PN altogether (not the purpose of my question), I've done the deed - renewed early and secured the discount.
The process seemed an improvement on last year, when I couldn't seem to do it online, and had to make a call.
But perhaps the difference is that although I was an existing PN customer last year, I was a new subscriber to the phone package, so the line rental saver was a new sign-up, not a renewal.
I still had a bit of trouble finding the right link, but once I had, thanks to a thread on the PN Community, it was all set up, ready to renew, having detected I had less than three months still to run. All went through OK, without insisting on a phone call to do it.
Thanks for the heads-up from Andrew, that made sure I didn't miss the deal.
