About to rebuild a bungalow. At present the phone line is overhead, fed from an electricity board pole in the corner of the garden (this also provides the overhead electric supply, that the local electric company will be putting underground)
What are my options for Openreach to do the same, is it a fixed cost (within limits) or something they come out and quote for. At present there is no service on the line, nor will there be until we move in)

Or use the form
Costs will depend on whether it stays on existing pole or whether you want it ducted underground

Yes, indeed. I've filled the form in, and sent it off, I'll report progress.....

298 quid (non refundable, and not off-settable against the job should I decide to go ahead)
I think the phone line will be staying overhead !

i would put a 25mm duct in alongside the power cable, for future FTTP use. you will have the trench open anyway. even if you decide to keep the copper line overhead

Standard Telecom ducting is 54mm...getting a rope through a 25mm duct is not going to be easy especially if there's already a cable in there.
Comms is hard

I should have said the survey will cost 298 quid (non refundable)
I'm not willing to pay 300 quid, to be told the job will cost a 1000.
The gas board just have a flat fee of 967 quid to install a pipe from the road to the house, which is far more onerous work.
I'm still going to run some duct work myself, there's a Virgin Media point in the road outside, so I'll make myself future proof.
Do BT/VM have any rules about the minimum distance their ducts are from power cables ?

Might be worth going back to basics...check whose pole it is, if it uses a wayleave for the electric company, you may find that BT have just hitched a ride on it, in which case when the electric company no longer need/use the pole you may be able to have them remove it if it's in your ground....and then Openreach will have to re-route their cables in order to maintain service to you!!
