Vista SP2 & ESET Smart Security

[link to this post]

Vista SP2 seems to completely stuff ESET Smart Security 4. Renders it inoperative, un-uninstallable, un-repairable and un-reinstallable. The inoperative bit includes it stopping local browsers from communicating with Apache. The only way out is to do a system restore to get rid of SP2. Just what I needed when I'm trying to get a mysql/php driven web site ready for demo on Monday frown. Anyone else had similar problems with SP2/ESET?

I only use the Anti-Virus - not seen any issues

however -
Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 can conflict with version 4.0 of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus. If you are running version 4.0 of either ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus and have installed the latest update for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, which includes Service Pack 2, you may be experiencing issues with your ESET security product.

the real lesson is - don't install any major update, such as Service Packs, unless you really have to - when time is short - as in those circumstances they always go wrong! (number of times I have been up very late trying to sort out something that should have been left to when I had more time!)

I install SP2 x64 here and nod 32 V4 haven't had any real issues.

It did mess up the other day and i had to stop the eset service and restart it and a bit more faffing but it returned to normal operation, it was that 0x101a (sp?) error.
